Migrate from New Blogger Beta to Wordpress using WordPress 2.2
The latest and greatest version of WordPress , WordPress 2.2 has just released. Some of the new features include
1. Addition of WordPress widgets to the core of WordPress and enabled for default themes. WordPress widgets needed to be added as a plugin in the earlier versions.
2. Protection from activating a plugin or editing a file that may break your blog
3. Improved speed optimization to your blog
4. A new Blogger Importer similar to that in wordpress.com blogs which you can now use to import your posts and comments from Blogger Beta without any user interaction beyond entering your login details.
We worked out methods such as the one on TechCounter where we had success importing blogger beta posts to Wordpress, which even though did the job needed some time and patience and sometimes if you did not set your Blogger settings right, you might come across an error or two.
Now all you need to do is upgrade to WordPress 2.2 even if already completed the importing from blogger to wordpress. If you are a blogger thinking about moving to WordPress from Blogger Beta, then look no further. Download Wordpress 2.2 here and then
Step # 1: After installing WordPress on your domain, go to Manage and then Import

Step # 2: Provide authorization to WordPress to Import from Blogger Beta
Click on Blogger, the first option. You will then be asked to provide authorization to allow Wordpress to import your posts and comments from Blogger beta to your WordPress blog. As you can see it says
” To use this importer, you must have a Google account, an upgraded (new, was Beta) blog, and it must be on blogspot or a custom domain”
so check , check and check

Step # 3: Sign into your Blogger account

Step # 4: Once you authorize, press Import and magic starts happening. All your Blogger posts, comments and categories are imported to the Wordpress blog you just created.
Congratulations !!! Post in the comments if this method worked out for you

[...] Migrating from New Blogger Beta to WordPress using WordPress 2.2 [...]

Has anyone tried 2.2 yet? I’m thinking about installing it, but want to make sure that it doesn’t have any bugs!
May 17th, 2007 at 12:56 am
I upgraded my site today and attempted to import new blogger. I kept getting an error that it couldn’t connect to google. I didn’t know if it was a problem in the app or from me - or just google being swamped with escapees. So I imported through the 3-step method - importing to wordpress.com first, then exporting that as rss to my computer, then importing that to WP on my site. Wish the 2.2 import would’ve worked but happpy to have it all in WP now.

hi ryan,
i so much hoped that this import blogger in wordpress thing will work this time….just installed the 2.2 version….
but i ll always get this message.
Could not connect to https://www.google.com
There was a problem opening a secure connection to Google. This is what went
wrong:
Unable to find the socket transport “ssl” - did you forget to enable it when you configured PHP? (3)

to Sandra
Is ssl enabled with your install of PHP? Best bet would be to contact your host and ask them.

For some reason the import won’t work for me. I always get this error:
Could not connect to https://www.google.com
There was a problem opening a secure connection to Google. This is what went wrong:
Success (0)
I have no clue what it means! The error is Success (0)… What does that mean? I’ve been switching from new Blogger blog to a self hosted Wordpress one, and I’m all ready except for the import. My readers might give up on me, as it’s been many days since I’ve gotten new content, as I’ve been busy with the transfer. I really need to get my posts imported. I’ve tried numerous times today and yesterday but it just won’t work. Help me?
June 6th, 2007 at 10:44 am
Hi Tay, what this means is that SSL support is not compiled with the php version of your hosting service.
One of the guys emailed me with the same question as well as earlier here in this post. I told him to contact his hosting service. His hosting service recompiled php with openssl support and he was able to complete the import successfully.
In simple words … Your WordPress blog is not able to establish a secure connection with Google. You need to contact your Hosting service to finish this. If you can’t, then use this method here
http://www.techcounter.com/wordpress/import-blogger-beta-posts-to-wordpress/
You should be able to complete your migration from blogger to wordpress using this method and you don’t need to have ssl enabled with your hosting service.

Hello and sorry for my poor english:
I´ve done a migration from Blogger to Wordpress 2.2. Everything is ok, except the permalinks.
I´ve redirected my old blog (http://directivamarco.blogspot.com) to the new domain (http://directivamarco.es/) and it works fine.
I´m trying to maintain the permalinks of my old posts, but wordpress creates new post slugs based on the post titles. I was searching and I found this post where the autor gives a solution for Wordpress 2.0.4.
I´ve tried to edit my archive blogger.php, but it seems that is totally new.
Can anybody help me?
Thank you very much.

Thank you! So simple, I migrated three blogs from blogger to wordpress.org, other than losing a few comments in each one - and there is no way I am hunting for them!
Now I just need to figure out how to move the one that is blogger but is currently on its own domain but still hosted through blogger.
Now comes the fun of finding a template I like and recreating all those widgets and no follow! Maybe should have done one at a time, grin.

I did three .blogspot blogs using the Wordpress importer, I mentioned above, worked fine. The fourth blog is Blogger, but not a .blogspot blog, it is hosted by blogger (beta) with its own domain name. I am not sure how to start migrating that one. Do I first go to the registry and point my domain name to the servers where it will be hosted — and then do the fantastico/wordpress download and import? Or by pointing the domain name first will I lose my blogger blog? I tried searching for an answer but got answers to everything but my question. I appreciate if you can at least direct me toward finding an answer

I tried to import and I got this error message:
Connection refused (111)
Can anyone shed light? Thanks.
August 12th, 2007 at 7:36 pm
It tells me I have no posts or comments to import, which I know isn’t the case. Any idea what the problem is?
August 15th, 2007 at 11:39 am
The import worked fine. The only slight issue is that the Wordpress blog shows quite a few line feeds between paragraphs.
I’m also going to do the redirecting from blogger as I think that’s quite important as I’ve got over 500 posts.

The importer is not working for me for either my self hosted wordpress blog or to wordpress.com.
In both instances I get to the authorize screen, then to the screen with this message
“This website has not registered with Google to establish a secure connection for authorization requests. ” I click grant access and then it sends me to a screen that says “Trouble signing in”. It then asks me to clear account data and we start the loop over again.
It cannot be a hosting issue because it happens at wordpress.com as well.
I am running wordpress 2.2.2
Any ideas would be appreciated or it is back to cut and paste.

Hi please forgive my grammar, it is not my native language. I found your blog on Bing “New Blogger Beta to WordPress using WordPress 2.2 | TechCounter - TechNews, Money & SEO” was essentially close to what I was search for, but after carefully reading through your story I still was not able locate clear answer to my problem and this is driving me crazy. I enjoy your blog and think it is certainly helpful but I think you could make it even better if you fine-tune your blog search to make it easier for visitors to locate required information within your blog. You can do it very easy by installing wordpress plugin… As far as I can remember plugin is called search everywhere it has a lot of helpful options like search excerpts, search comments. If you need help about configuring enhanced blog search you can find me me at Nutall45@live.com Thank you I hope you have a productive day

Woah! I’m really enjoying the template/theme of this website. It’s simple, yet effective. A lot of times it’s very difficult to get that “perfect balance” between usability and visual appeal. I must say you have done a excellent job with this. Also, the blog loads extremely quick for me on Chrome. Outstanding Blog!
