How to Increase Alexa Ranking of your Blog or WebSite
Alexa.com is owned by Amazon.com and provides various traffic level metrics related to your web site or blog. Their Alexa Rank is measured by the number of visits by visitors to your blog with the Alexa Toolbar installed. In this article, we will examine some sure shot methods that will increase your Alexa Ranking and improve the overall web site ranking of your Blog or website.
What is the Alexa Rank?
Alexa traffic Rank is based on the number of visits each website receives from the people who visit that particular website with the Alexa Toolbar installed.
Alexa defines its Alexa Traffic Rank as
The traffic rank is based on three months of aggregated historical traffic data from millions of Alexa Toolbar users and is a combined measure of page views and users (reach). As a first step, Alexa computes the reach and number of page views for all sites on the Web on a daily basis.
The main Alexa traffic rank is based on the geometric mean of these two quantities averaged over time (so that the rank of a site reflects both the number of users who visit that site as well as the number of pages on the site viewed by those users)
Why would you want to Increase your Alexa Rank?
Alexa Rankings are terribly flawed simply because it bases your Alexa Rank only on the visitors to your blog who have the Alexa Toolbar installed. Unfortunately the Alexa Rank is still one of the primary factors in determining the popularity of a website and determining its worth. Even at my VC company, we use Alexa Rankings but we also supplement that with our own metrics and other metrics provided by sites such as compete.com.
Besides showing your website or blog popularity, your Alexa Rank determines how much you can make from Make Money Online programs such as ReviewMe, Text Link Ads etc who determine your ad strength based on your Alexa Rankings. So in simple words, if you want to make more money, you better take steps to improve your Alexa Rank
The list shown here only gives you proven methods and tips that will definitely help increase your Alexa Rank. The tips below are shown in order of importance
Tip # 1: Install the Alexa Toolbar
The first step is download the Alexa Toolbar and after you install it, set your website as the homepage. Alexa gives a hit per unique IP address. So you need not keep clicking and visiting your own blog or website multiple times. Also this toolbar is for Internet Explorer users. So for those who use Firefox as their primary browser, you can use SearchStatus, a Alexa Ranking extention for Firefox and Mozilla Browsers.
Your Alexa Toolbar also includes a pop up blocker and besides showing you the Alexa Rank, you can also see other relevant information of the website you are visiting such as Contact information, Related Links and also a Search bar.

Tip # 2: Use the Alexa Redirect
Using an Alexa redirect will give search engines a (301) permanent redirect. This redirect is search engine friendly. This Alexa Redirect looks like

What this is doing is still taking to my Blog’s homepage but doing an Alexa redirect on the way which would register as a hit in Alexa and adds to your Alexa Ranking even if that particular visitor does not have the Alexa Toolbar installed. Click on the link below to find out what I mean.
Replace www.techcounter.com with the URL of your own Blog and start using the Alexa redirect on your internal URLs.
Tip # 3: Write Quality content
This is a given. The more quality content you write, the more people love it and search engines love it. The more people love it, the more likely they are to link to you bringing you additional traffic who people who might have the Alexa Toolbar installed. The same goes with search engines. Also you might get stumbled, get submitted to Digg or Reddit which will inturn bring in more visitors. Also, when DIgg overtook Slashdot, a bunch of Diggers installed the Alexa Toolbar. It is very likely that they still have it. While you can only game the Alexa Rankings so much, the math is simple
quality content = more visitors = higher Alexa Rank
Tip # 4: Post your URL everywhere
Visit forums releated to your topic or anywhere else, when you post a comment, make sure you put the URL of your blog in there. Also, when you post the URL, make sure its through the Alexa Redirect as shown in Tip # 2 above
Tip # 5: Try Alexa Auto surf programs
One of the best Auto surf programs I have seen is through upmyrank.com. You need the Alexa Toolbar for it and when you download their UpMyRank Autosurf software. I still don’t understand why alexa doesn’t update his traffic rank as often as other sites. They are haveing probably some of the best engine alive and them information is quite not useful while they are behind with updating information about websites. I don’t trust them too much even if they ae having a pretty good image in the interent industry. I don’t reaaly recomend alexa toolbar to anyone.
