Google Suggest now suggests Ads
When Google Suggest came out of Google labs and became the default option on Google.com, it bought many of the benefits by default to the masses. Google Suggest helped people to take advantage of the query suggesstion, where if you were unable to think of a good term to describe what you are trying to search for, Google suggest would revel relevant search terms in the search box automatically. It also displayed the more popular queries/keywords by showing the approximate number of results for that particular query.
Now, Google suggest is also suggesting ads. This comes after Google started showing ads on its popular Google Finance portal. Maybe signs of the current state of economy with Google trying to maximize as much real estate as possible

Honestly, it’s a little surprising that Google is using the suggestion box to plug ads. I feel as though there is more than enough space for ads in the SERPs, why the need to clutter it up even more?

Straight from the ebay playbook I guess. Screw your users because you have a monopoly and because you can.

The most dramatic change is the inclusion of AdWords ads in this box. Here are some of the ones I’ve spotted.

Google, like apple think that because they are on the top and really have no competition that they can do whatever they like and get away with it!

I can understand Google’s point of view. If you can click on those results A LOT of people will never get to the results page - where the ads are who provide bread to the GOOG.

I’m sure Firefox extensions like CustomizeGoogle will soon blog these ads, if they aren’t doing so already. Granted, I can hardly blame an ad-supported service for pushing more ads.

Google is doing what ever it can to make more money, showing ads on suggested sites means more clicks and more money.

I am not saying that, Google funding the innovations to make their search engine better is wrong. What I meant was investing huge money to come-up with things like Google Buzz is waste of time and money.

Google’s also removing the page count from the suggestions–something that never made sense anyway–and says it will be rolling the new features out “gradually.
August 4th, 2010 at 1:26 am
OK, so the one I’m not so sure about is the new “suggestions on the search page” feature. Basically.

I know that many internet users actually google website (i.e. if they want to go to twitter.com, they enter twitter in google search box Therefore, Google can directly make money from such usages by “forcing” users to click on ads if they want to directly go to the website.

August 12th, 2010 at 2:23 am
Will this be an advantage for advertisers? And any start-ups who couldn’t afford advertising has a lesser chance of being shown. Correct me if i made a wrong perception.
August 12th, 2010 at 4:50 am
well, now in simple words. agianst each suggestion there is a number. that number denotes number of links (results) google knows for that “suggestion”.
