Google integrates AIM with GMail
If you are one of those lucky people to have GMail 2.0, Gmail chat now gives you the option to integrate the popular AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) with your GMail account allowing you the option to chat with your AIM buddies right inside GMail. Your AIM buddies will populate your Gmail Contat list and you can search for them just like your GTalk contacts.

Once you’re signed in, just click the down arrow next to your status message and select Sign in to AIM. If this is your first time connecting, you’ll be prompted to enter your AIM screen name and password. Click Connect to continue.

For all the privacy watchers, Google will not store your AIM password. When you first sign in, your AIM password will be forwarded to AOL’s OpenAuth service. AOL will then validate your log-in information and then Google will use a token to sign you into AIM. Googe will then forget your password.

I was going to sign up to an affiliate network and pay out the 30% fee for each commission payout but I quite like the idea of keeping on top of things myself and offering daily spiffs and incentives.

Hello there! Thanks for the information! This is really great! Google are always trying to come up with new tools to help the users. And as my friend Jean says” The more services integrate the better it is”

Greetings just wondering if any one could suggest a good torrent downloader. Hopefully free but if reasonable and fast with good storage I would consider a paid service.

When I chat with friends, sometimes their sn automatically IMs me about a google x or gmail x or some sort of combo of the two that stores/logs the convo. Anyone know what I’m talking about because I’d like to be able to see my logs. Thanks!

why not integrating with google talk ?
March 9th, 2010 at 7:47 am
This is such a HUGE surprise. I would have never even began to think about Google and AIM teaming up in anyway, then again Google is buying everything left to right just because the can.

I have such an intense, visceral, almost pathological hatred of webmail that I just haven’t paid attention to Gmail’s development. I have plenty of space at my own domain (thanks to my hosting service) and Mail.app’s spam filter catches 99% of the junk that his my inbox.

Google said it was rolling out the new feature on the English version of Gmail on Tuesday. AIM access will be available on other language versions of Gmail soon, the company said.
May 3rd, 2010 at 10:47 am
Hmm, sound’s great. Let me try that one too. I am using newest version of gmail but then I don’t have time to browse much of its feature. Now, I will going to do that, it will make it a top priority, it seems of big help on communicating somebody. Thanks for the idea.

We’re always looking for new and useful ways to help our users connect with friends, family, and coworkers,” Google said in a statement.

Some exceptional thoughts below. Have you been convinced it is the appropriate technique to look at it even though? My very own particular experience is the fact that everyone have to rather much are living and let reside mainly because what just one guy thinks just — an additional individual purely doesn’t. Human beings are going to do what they would like to do. Within the end, they often do. Probably the most we can pray for is to highlight a number of issues the following and there that hopefully, allows them to make just a little better informed decision. Otherwise, tremendous publish. You’re without doubt making me consider!

The ability to connect to AIM through Gmail is a “very big deal,” said Michael Osterman, founder of messaging analysis firm Osterman Research. About 75 percent of people who use IM in business settings use AIM or the AIM enterprise product, he said.

Well, this is the nicest thing we can get. Loved this step.

“AIM in Gmail is not a Google Talk and AIM federation; it’s the ability to sign in to your AIM messaging account from Gmail. Gmail uses Open AIM to provide this feature,” writes Google.
July 22nd, 2010 at 11:51 pm
I would have never even began to think about Google and AIM teaming up in anyway, then again Google is buying everything left to right just because the can. so I guess it was just a matter of time because they took a piece of AIM too.
July 23rd, 2010 at 8:01 am
Gmail users can sign into AIM through the “set status here” menu. AIM contacts and Gmail chat will appear on the same menu. Initially only English version of the AIM service will be available, with more languages to join soon.

For a while (in my RSS reader) the title made me feel that, Google had generically implemented it.
August 10th, 2010 at 1:28 am
Google should first inform their usersthat they have added some new features, and then get the users’ consent to implement the features. Otherwise, they should leave the users the option to retain the old Gmail version, which is much faster

August 15th, 2010 at 12:45 pm
This has been a great tool for a while, I love it. You don’t need to have aim installed anymore to use it.
August 17th, 2010 at 5:10 am
This seems to be a good move. AOL weren’t going anywhere lately but with support from Google, AIM can gain a lot of popularity again.
August 17th, 2010 at 10:50 am
It is nice that you don’t have to download AOL I hate what it does to my PC. I didn’t realized they had done this.
